The reigning World No. 1 proved to be in a class of his own in 2005, redefining excellence and establishing himself as one of the best players to ever grace the ATP circuit.The Swiss star produced a remarkable 81-4 season effort, capturing a circuit-leading 11 titles and an unprecedented four ATP Masters Series shields. Only the fifth player in the Open Era to hold down the No. 1 rank for the entire year, Federer also established an Open Era record of 24 finals won in a row – a run dating back to October 2003.The 24-year-old once again rose to the occasion at Wimbledon and the US Open, successfully defending his titles to become the first man in almost 80 years to win both in back-to-back years. The sports world celebrated the star, naming him the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year. He was also honored as GQ’s Interna-tional Man of the Year, chosen over Pope Benedict XVI, among others.
